The team at The Show Gazette will bring readers content and player reviews whenever new programs release or significant content drops into the game.
Today, we’re going through all the players you can earn through two valuable programs at launch — the Spring Breakout Program and the Pipeline Series Program.
CHASE DOLLANDER
- Location: Spring Breakout Program
- Card Series: Spring Breakout
- Overall: 85
- Position: SP
- ShowZone profile
Perks: A right-handed pitcher that throws gas, Dollander is an excellent early game pitcher. Equipped with a high-90s four-seamer, a hard slider, a big breaking curveball, a sinker and a circle change, Dollander can slot into a lot of rotations.
Grind Time: Not a whole lot. Dollander is the first diamond available in the program. After completing the moments and checking off some PXP and stat missions with the golds in the program, Dollander is easily attainable.
Drawbacks: Dollander's control is somewhat low. If you're taking him into a game on Hall of Fame or higher, not being able to hit the edges of the strike zone consistently could cost you.
Verdict: For the first few weeks, Dollander is about as solid a rotation option as they come. If you're itching to get into Ranked, he's a very attainable and quality card for your squad.
MAX CLARK
- Location: Spring Breakout Program
- Card Series: Spring Breakout
- Overall: 86
- Position: CF (Secondary: LF, RF)
- ShowZone profile
Perks: A defense-first centerfielder. Clark has enough offensive attributes to contribute early in the year, but the true value is seen when he’s patrolling the outfield and stealing bases.
Grind Time: This takes a bit longer than Dollander in the same program.
Drawbacks: Clark has well below average power, resulting in barreled balls being lineouts much of the time.
Verdict: Clark works as an early game center fielder. With outfield defense being especially suspect this year, having this good of a fielder in center pays off. This skill set paired with a sweet left-handed swing and plus speed make for a solid card.
JJ WETHERHOLT
- Location: Spring Breakout Program
- Card Series: Spring Breakout
- Overall: 87
- Position: SS (Secondary 2B, 3B)
- ShowZone profile
Perks: Wetherholt is about as well-rounded a card as you’ll find at this stage in MLB The Show 25. He doesn’t really have any holes, as his attributes are above average across the board.
Grind Time: This card is the final reward in the Spring Breakout Program, making this grind a bit long. Prioritizing playing offline with Spring Breakout cards is key for getting Wetherholt in decent time, as you'll need to both accrue stats and PXP with them as you move along the program.
Drawbacks: As mentioned, there really isn't anything wrong with this card. A decent lefty swing with contact and pop, paired with above average defense and speed. He may not be the flashiest, but he checks a lot of boxes.
Verdict: An unexciting but quite solid option at short or second, Wetherholt is worthy of the grind.
DALTON RUSHING
- Location: Pipeline Program
- Card Series: Pipeline
- Overall: 85
- Position: C (Secondary LF)
- ShowZone profile
Perks: Super well-rounded catcher with a solid lefty swing, Rushing is a great option as an early game catcher.
Grind Time: The first attainable diamond in the Pipline Series Program, Rushing does not take long to acquire after completing the moments and a few missions.
Drawbacks: As mentioned, there aren't many holes here. His swing is still viable in lefty-lefty matchups and the defense holds up. The only drawback might be that he doesn’t extraordinarily excel in a particular attribute.
Verdict: He should be a lot of folks' day-one options behind the dish.
JORDAN LAWLER
- Location: Pipeline Program
- Card Series: Pipeline
- Overall: 86
- Position: SS (Secondary 3B)
- ShowZone profile
Perks: Lawlar is another well-rounded card perfect for early game. His plus speed, plus defense and sweet swing make him play above his attributes.
Grind Time: Lawlar will take a bit longer than Rushing, needing more missions to be completed before acquiring him.
Drawbacks: His offensive attributes leave a bit to be desired. You'd think a Lawlar card would have more power, but 66 and 70 against righties and lefties, respectively, don’t jump out at you.
Verdict: Despite the underwhelming offensive attributes, this card is a solid option for shortstop or even third base. He has a great swing and can pick up extra bases with his 95 speed, all while playing above average defense.
WALKER JENKINS
- Location: Pipeline Program
- Card Series: Pipeline
- Overall: 87
- Position: CF (Secondary RF)
- ShowZone profile
Perks: A great swing, well-rounded attributes and an RF secondary make Jenkins a great add to your squad.
Grind Time: Walker is the last reward in this program. For some reason, this program progressed much faster than the Spring Breakout Program, so this grind isn’t too cumbersome as long as you utilize your cards offline.
Drawbacks: With 65 speed, there's likely a better defensive option in his primary position of centerfield (like Max Clark).
Verdict: Jenkins is a very good outfielder to have in your lineup. His attributes play better in right field while also maintaining that silver shield on defense.
