SDS Nerfs Red Sox Theme Boost, Cites Meta-Defining Concerns

Fans of the Boston Red Sox are feasting early in MLB The Show 25 — but they just got denied the opportunity for seconds.

No theme team is stronger at the launch of MLB The Show 25 than the Red Sox. Including the 85 overall Jolt Series Clay Buchholz that provides a boost, Boston has eight diamonds — 99 Roger Clemens, 88 Manny Ramirez, 87 Roman Anthony, 87 Marcelo Mayer, 87 Kristian Campbell, 86 Tanner Houck, 85 Ted Williams and Buchholz.

Because that team is already so strong, SDS decided to nerf it.

CBrev posted on The Show community forum that SDS will counteract the strength of the Red Sox theme team, at least for now, by lessening the boosts provided by Buchholz.

"We want theme teams to be competitively viable, but not meta-defining," CBrev wrote in the post.

That's refreshing to hear.

So, the Red Sox boost now looks a bit different.

BEFORE

Tier 1: +5 Contact vs. Right, +5 Contact vs. Left, +5 Batting Clutch, +5 Hits Per 9

Tier 2: +8, +8, +8, +10

Tier 3: +10, +10, +10, +15

AFTER

Tier 1: +1, +1, +1, +3

Tier 2: +3, +3, +3, +5

Tier 3: +5, +5, +5, +8

This boost might not be permanent, as CBrev went on to say that SDS will continue to monitor boosts and make adjustments as the year progresses. He also teased new Red Sox cards to come as a reason for the change.
