The Tampa Bay Rays have been at the forefront of baseball esports, and they're taking it to another level for MLB The Show 25.
On Friday, Yuki Taketani — the Emerging Tech Coordinator for the Rays and the man behind esports at the organization — announced the inaugural "Creator Showdown" that will be held at 7 p.m. Eastern on March 25.
The eight creators — GracefulSwan, Mills, OhChev, JX Gaming, Daddy Dimmu, GoldGlove TV, aka Scarlet and YourFriendKyle — will all use the Ray's Live Series roster in a head-to-head style format.
ScuffyMcGee and NoSleeves will serve as casters for the virtual tournament.
Online qualifier dates for the third-annual "Sunburst Invitational" were also announced. The finals of the four qualifier events are April 7, April 28, May 12 and June 23. The four winners will be flown to St. Petersburg, Fla., for the in-person championship on Thursday, July 12. Both the semifinals and finals will take place at Coastal Creative in St. Petersburg.
The winner of the event will receive $8,000. The runner-up earns $2,500, while third place earns $1,000 and fourth place earns $500.
