The Last Ride Program was short, sweet and to the point — plus it delivered one of the best left-handed bats in the early game.

Last Ride Mike Mussina, David Ortiz Content Review

The team at The Show Gazette will bring readers content and player reviews whenever new programs release or significant content drops into the game.

Today, we’re going through all the players you can earn through the newest program in MLB The Show 25 — the Last Ride Program.

MIKE MUSSINA

  • Location: Last Ride Program
  • Card Series: Last Ride
  • Overall: 87
  • Position: SP
  • ShowZone profile

Perks: With a smaller PAR size thanks to a 105 BB/9, you are able to dot your pitches extremely well. With a sinker and cutter in his five-pitch mix, he can be very useful.

Grind Time: Very quick. There are six moments in this program; complete five and you have Mussina.

Drawbacks: Lack of velocity combined with only 71 H/9 and 69 K/9 will mean this card will struggle on All-Star online difficulty.

Verdict: Mussina is a top-10 pitcher currently in the game due to his high control; however, this card is better suited to Hall of Fame and higher difficulties due to the lack of velocity that would allow him to overpower on lower difficulties.

DAVID ORTIZ

  • Location: Last Ride Program
  • Card Series: Last Ride
  • Overall: 88
  • Position: 1B
  • ShowZone profile

Perks: David Ortiz cards are great offensive weapons, and this is no different. He has reasonably high contact against both sides (97/96) and 105 power vs. right and 71 power vs. left. His 106 clutch will ensure he’s very good in situations with runners in scoring position.

Grind Time: Quite a bit more than Mussina. Acquiring him requires all moments to be completed and 15 hits with Red Sox, 10 innings pitched with Yankees and 500 PXP with both Last Ride Series hitters and pitchers. He’s still worth it.

Drawbacks: Better suited to DH than 1B with his common defensive attributes, and Big Papi being Big Papi, he has a whopping 12 speed.

Verdict: This Ortiz card is the best DH for your squad out of cards that are easily accessible. It’s probably only pushed to second out of program cards by 89 Santander (but that is a significantly longer and more expensive grind). Complete this grind, and you won’t be disappointed.
