Diamond Dynasty is Getting an Overhaul in MLB The Show 25

If there was one word to describe the Diamond Dynasty Deep Dive revealed Tuesday afternoon, it would be, “Woah.”

With Sets and Seasons taking a hike in the new year, MLB The Show 25 is reverting back to the old “power creep” method of Diamond Dynasty.

Let’s take a closer look at the Deep Dive, — which talked about a lot more than just the power creep — and let’s dissect what we can expect to see in just two weeks.

Leading off, as all other Deep Dives have thus far, was fielding feedback from the community. It seems that SDS is really trying to drive home that it cares and has listened to feedback from the previous two games, putting effort into each and every single content drop to this point.

After talking about the year-long progression model being back, the Deep Dive went right into Diamond Quest, a new game mode that has been mentioned a couple of times since the initial trailer was released. Diamond Quest is a single-player game mode that you explore on a game board. Throughout the game board are different challenges like moments and three-inning games. While you explore the game board, perks and in-map penalties will force you to change your tactics throughout the board.

Throughout your run, you will earn peanuts — a new currency specific to Diamond Quest — that will allow you to unlock perks to help your squad. As you increase your difficulty in Diamond Quest, you will have a better chance to earn exclusive top-tier rewards. Stay alert, though, because every run is different, allowing for new twists and turns every time you start a new run.

The all-new Weekend Classic, a new game mode that falls under the Ranked umbrella, is not necessarily mode, but it’s been a widely requested addition to MLB The Show. The Weekend Classic will be played the last four days of each Ranked season and will be the home of MLB The Show’s most competitive games.

Every single player qualifies for Weekend Classic, and as you win more games, you increase your ranking to qualify for higher Weekend Classic divisions, allowing you to earn even better rewards.

Earning a 6-0 record to start out your Weekend Classic run will guarantee some of the best rewards the game has to offer, and if you keep winning, you can move up the leaderboard to earn even more.

Team Affinity is back for another year but with a few new twists. Team Affinity is now specific to each team, compared to divisions in the past few versions of the game. Live content drops throughout the year will allow for players to earn more rewards and progress for each Team Affinity program.

Multiplayer game modes will now combine into one Multiplayer Program. Instead of programs for Battle Royale, Events and Ranked, players can now play the multiplayer game modes when they want and how they want and still earn some of the best cards in MLB The Show.

Both themed and player programs return to Diamond Dynasty, but with a couple of new twists, as all game modes in Diamond Dynasty have had. Spotlight programs, a new look at weekly and Monthly Awards programs, will highlight the best MLB performances in real time and bring the awards programs to “a whole new level.”

Legacy programs will also be added to themed programs, tracking statistics and milestones for each player. As you progress in each legacy program, you will earn badges and profile unlockables, allowing you to show off your dominance to all players.

Some card attributes were revealed throughout the Deep Dive, including pre-order reward card Clayton Kershaw, starter program reward Roger Clemens and a Frank Thomas card yet to be revealed.

Negro Leagues Storylines: Season 3 was also officially confirmed, although we did not get any more details.

Finally, new presentation packages, including on-screen, in-game milestone celebrations, have been added to every mode in Diamond Dynasty.
